FAQ

HUNGARY SPECIFIC

What do Buda and Pest sides mean?

Budapest used to be two cities on either side of the Danube River. Although they are now one city known as Budapest, the locals still use Buda and Pest to differentiate which side of the river they are referring to.

What currency does Hungary use?

While Hungary is within the EU, they use their own currency called the Forint (HUF). Euros may be accepted at some tourist locations, but it's best to have Forint or just use a credit card.

TRAVEL/TRANSPORT

When will we (Sara & Steven) be in Budapest?

We will be arriving on Monday, August 19th in Budapest!

When should I arrive?

We have a welcome dinner and champagne planned for the evening of Friday, August 23rd in Budapest. If you aim to sightsee in Budapest, we recommend you arrive the morning of Tuesday, August 20th for the magical St. Stephens Day fireworks later that night. This would give you the remainder of the week to sightsee before our activities commence on Friday evening. However, if you have been to Budapest before, and are only coming for the wedding events, we would recommend you arrive on the morning of August 23 or the night of August 22nd, and you will be rested and ready for our activities!

Which airport should I fly into?

We recommend Budapest Airport (BUD) as it is the closest airport and the least amount of hassle. However, depending on where you are coming from, Vienna (VIE) is a very good option as well (direct from Toronto, and a €13 2h train ride away from Budapest). If time is not a limiting factor, a more cost-effective way to get to Budapest is to find a flight deal to just about any European flight hub and then transfer to a budget airline (like Ryanair or Wizz) to get to Budapest. Some options to check from North American cities would be Dublin, London, Paris, Frankfurt, and Rome. Remember, if you do this, your flight connection is not guaranteed, so make sure you give yourself a night to enjoy the city where you're making the transfer!

How do I get to the wedding venue?

We have arranged for a bus to directly transport you from the Hotel Oktogon in downtown Budapest to our venue in Alsóbogát. It is a direct transfer that will take 2 hours, door-to-door. The cost for the transport is $50 per person round trip. Please let us know if you would like to opt in through the RSVP. If you would like to arrange alternative transportation or rent a car to see the countryside that is completely fine, we will see you at the venue! The shuttle to the venue will be leaving on Saturday, August 24th at 2:00PM from the Hotel Oktogon in Budapest. The shuttle from the venue will be leaving Villa Bogart on Monday, August 26th around 2:00PM back to the Hotel Oktogon in Budapest.

What about my bags on the morning of Saturday, August 24th?

The Hotel Oktogon has a luggage room where they can hold our bags after check-out and before the shuttle bus pick-up. If you are staying elsewhere, and want to drop off your bags after checking out of your hotel, just let the front desk know you are with our wedding group. This way, you can spend your morning without carrying your luggage around.

We took the shuttle to Villa Bogart but need to run into town for something. What can we do?

The town of Kaposvar is 20-minutes away, with smaller villages with corner stores even closer. If the need arises, there will be family members with cars who can assist.

ACCOMMODATION

Do I have to stay at the Hotel Oktogon in Budapest?

Absolutely not! We put a lot of research into finding a centrally located hotel (within walking distance to everything, at the intersection of two major subway lines), with Hungarian historic charm, but new amenities (new mattresses and air conditioning, gym, sauna, and spa), and a full well-rated breakfast bar. We negotiated a lower group price for us, to centralize our guests in the hopes of increasing our facetime with you all. However, feel free to find your own accommodations. We can stay in touch and interact in the days leading up if you want to know what others are up to.

Will everyone be staying at Villa Bogart?

Our venue consists of numerous larger and smaller buildings that can accommodate our guests at different distances from the reception hall. We will be doing our best to put families and groups of friends together, prioritizing immediate family and those involved in the wedding closer.

How much will it cost to stay for the weekend at Villa Bogart?

Our all-inclusive wedding rate ranges from €130 to €195 per person for the wedding dates (August 24 - 26), depending on which building and room you stay in. The rate includes 2 nights accommodation, dinner on Saturday night including wine and beer (on us), breakfast and lunch on Sunday as well as breakfast on Monday. The wedding is on Sunday evening, so all of your meals at the venue during these 2 days are covered.

What are the accommodations like at Villa Bogart?

Our venue consists of numerous larger and smaller buildings, spread throughout the estate, and even located within walking distance in the village down the road. They are charming and quaint. You will have a true, Hungarian countryside experience.

If I’m RSVP-ing without a plus-one, will I have to share a room with someone else at Villa Bogart?

We will be reaching out to all guests after RSVPs with our suggested room assignments based on families and groups of friends. You may be asked if you are comfortable being added into a room with people you know that has the capacity for additional beds. This will all be determined through communication with you. However, we ask that you remember that the better we can utilize the venue's capacity, the more guests can stay closer to our venue. This weekend is about quality time after all. :)

How do I book my room at Villa Bogart?

Once we pass our RSVP deadline date, we will be reaching out to you individually to arrange payment for the accommodation through us. We will be doing all of the work for you. :)

Can I choose which room I get?

We’ve organized our guest lists into friend groups/families and will be placing those from the same groups in houses together. When we reach out to you to arrange payment for the accommodation, we will share with you where we have assigned you, and if there are any issues, please let us know then.

What else is included in the stay at Villa Bogart?

Two nights accommodation, Goulash dinner on Saturday night on the estate grounds, breakfast on Sunday and Monday mornings, lunch on Sunday (wedding day), free use of the bicycles, and private access to the peaceful grounds, which has a lake (with a boat you can fish on), tennis courts, and soccer pitch. We will be providing beverages, including beer and wine for all, for the Saturday Goulash dinner as well.

What about accommodation after the wedding (post August 25th)?

Since Hungarian weddings traditionally go into the wee hours of the morning, we expect a tired day on Monday, and would not recommend travelling straight away in the evening. Our room block code for the Hotel Oktogon is still valid for these dates and can be found under the Accommodation page. However, there will be no events following the wedding, so no need to stay another day. Merely a suggestion.

ACTIVITIES

Where is the welcome dinner and drinks being held?

Our welcome drinks for our travelling guests will be held in the Budapest city center at the High Note Skybar on the rooftop of the 5-star Aria Hotel. It is located 1.2km away from our home-base Hotel Oktogon.

What is there to do on Sunday before the wedding while I’m at Villa Bogart?

Take the time to enjoy our venue, we have it all to ourselves! Walk around the grounds, take a look at both historic castles, walk around the lake, take the boat out for a paddle, play some tennis, play a friendly game of soccer with friends, or take a bike ride through the area. The venue and surrounding area are the epitome of Hungarian countryside charm. Enjoy the company of those you may be reunited with after a long period of time. :)

WEDDING DAY

What time is the ceremony starting at?

Late afternoon. Our exact timeline is still to be determined. We will update our website as we have more information.

ATTIRE

What is the dress code for the welcome dinner and drinks at the High Note Skybar?

Garden Party Attire, Semi-Formal. No sneakers, no flip-flops, no shorts.

What is the dress code for the wedding?

For both the ceremony and reception our dress code is Cocktail, so this means knee-length and longer dresses or a smart jumpsuit for women and suits or dress shirt + sports jacket/blazer and pants combo (ties preferred) for men. Summer colours and fabrics are encouraged. Additionally, we ask that you not wear red to follow Hungarian tradition, as that colour is reserved for the bride after midnight. :) Here is a good guide if you still feel vague!

Should I wear heels to the wedding?

Expect to walk around the grounds in the shoes you will be wearing for the evening. From your accommodation, to the ceremony location, to the reception. Also, our cocktail hour will be held in a grassy area. We recommend chunky/block heels if you are inclined to wear heels! But it is really up to you!

WEATHER

What is the weather like in Hungary in August?

August has an average temperature of 21°C, however it would not be out of the ordinary to see a day in the mid to high 30's. You can expect cooler weather at night when winds help to bring temperatures down to a comfortable 15°C.

Will the ceremony be taking place outdoors?

No, this will take place indoors inside the historic Festhetics-Inkey Castle.

Will the cocktail hour be taking place outdoors?

Yes – this will be on the lawn if the weather cooperates!

Will the reception be taking place outdoors?

No – our reception is taking place in one of the venue’s buildings called the Granary – it does have a clear roof so you’ll feel like you’re outside! Given the temperature will drop a bit in the evenings, we felt this would be most appropriate! Fun Fact: The Granary combines both historic architecture and high-tech solutions, such as the solar-powered glass roof, the only one of its kind in Hungary.

PLUS ONES/CHILDREN

Can I bring a plus one?

Unfortunately, we are only able to accommodate guests who are formally invited. You will see on your invitation if you have a plus one, and it will also be attached to your RSVP when you provide your name when filling out the form. If you have a special request, feel free to reach out to us personally.

Can I bring my children with me?

Our venue has limited capacity, and as such we are limiting children to those of immediate family members and those in our wedding party. If you have a special request, feel free to reach out to us personally.

RSVP

Where do I RSVP?

All of our RSVPs will be collected through this wedding website. See the RSVP page.

When do I need to RSVP by?

To help us coordinate, we ask that you RSVP by May 30th. However, if you have a special circumstance for which you need more time to figure out if you are able to attend, please reach out to us personally.

GIFTS

Where are you registered?

We are so blessed to have all of our closest friends and family coming from all corners of the world to celebrate with us. We know this is a tall ask already, and your presence is the best present we could ask for and have no expectations of gifts! However, if you feel inclined, we’ve created a convenient link for the different goals we have, which can be found on the Gifts page. Please do not feel obligated at all!

SOCIAL MEDIA

We will be having an unplugged ceremony, so no phones at the ceremony please. Outside of the ceremony, feel free to take all the pictures/videos you would like to and post them on social media!

You can also use our hashtag #s2weddingadventure to help consolidate the weekend's photos in one place if posting on Instagram.
